Smart PlateWhat to cook with what you have at home

A service that saves you time and money on everyday food

Smart Plate is a free service built around the two questions that come back every week: what to buy, and what to cook with it. A ready-made menu saves time, and a carefully chosen set of foods saves money, because nothing is left to spoil in the fridge. Every dish follows the healthy plate method from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Why it exists

Every evening the same scene repeats: the fridge is open, there are no ideas, and there is food. Because of that:

  • groceries get bought twice — first “just in case”, then “because there is nothing to eat”;
  • half a bunch of herbs, an opened tub of yoghurt and a forgotten courgette go into the bin;
  • dinner ends up being whatever cooks fastest, not whatever is better for you;
  • planning takes more energy than the cooking itself.

What you can do here

Four tools that work together. Nothing to install, no account to create.

🥗 Build a dish from what you already have

Tick the foods in your fridge and the service turns them into three dishes of different effort: a simple one, a more interesting one and a proper weekend one. It shows the cooking time, the steps, the vitamins and minerals, and what the plate is missing for balance.

📅 Plan a week of meals

Up to 21 dishes — breakfasts, lunches and dinners for seven days. Before building it, the service asks what you already have and what to keep out: no meat, no gluten, no dairy — eight ready-made restrictions plus individual foods.

🧺 Get the shopping list

Grouped by supermarket aisle, with amounts for your household and real pack sizes. Perishables are flagged, and whatever you already have never reaches the list. One tap copies the whole thing.

🔖 Save it and come back

Dishes and whole weeks live in the Saved tab. Open one and the menu and its shopping list are exactly where you left them.

The healthy plate method

Every dish follows the Harvard Healthy Eating Plate — a simple model of balanced eating from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Instead of counting calories it describes proportions on the plate:

  • ½ Vegetables and fruit. The more colours, the more vitamins. Potatoes do not count here.
  • ¼ Whole grains. Buckwheat, brown rice, bulgur, quinoa, wholegrain bread — they keep you full for longer.
  • ¼ Protein. Fish, poultry, eggs, legumes, cheese, tofu. Red meat less often.
  • + Healthy fat and water. A spoon of oil for dressing, and water or unsweetened tea instead of sugary drinks.

The service works out these proportions for every dish and says plainly when a plate is out of balance — too few vegetables, say, or no protein at all.

What makes this different

Most recipe apps start by asking what you feel like eating. We start with what you already have.

We cook from your food, not from a shopping list

No tamarind, no lamb shank. The service works with the foods that are actually in an ordinary fridge and never makes you buy half the recipe first.

The week is built so that nothing is wasted

That is the core rule of the project. The set of foods is deliberately small, each one goes into several dishes, perishables are cooked early in the week, and whatever will not keep is marked “freeze part of it”.

A shopping list with amounts, not just names

How many grams of chicken for two people for a week, and how many packs that is in the shop — the service works it out. Grouped by aisle so you do not cross the shop twice.

Three levels of effort for the same ingredients

The same foods give you both a fifteen-minute weeknight plate and a proper weekend pilaf. You choose, not the algorithm.

Instant, and no sign-up

Dishes are assembled by a local engine right in your browser, so the answer appears in a fraction of a second. AI only polishes the wording, and everything still works when it is unavailable.

Free, no ads, no sign-up

We do not ask for your email, show banners or sell anybody’s habits. Everything you tick stays in your browser. Visit statistics only start with your consent, and all we see from them is which pages get opened.

Three languages

Ukrainian, Russian and English — written properly in each, not machine translated.

Where the saving comes from

An average household throws away a noticeable share of the food it buys, mostly because it shops without a plan. A week built from a compact set of foods gives you three things at once: one shopping trip instead of three, a smaller bill because there are no impulse buys, and an almost empty food-waste bin. Time works the same way: deciding what to cook takes a minute instead of a daily stare into the fridge.

Honest about the limits

  • This is not medical advice. The service does not replace a doctor or a dietitian, especially with chronic conditions, pregnancy or allergies.
  • We do not count calories or track weight — the healthy plate method is deliberately about proportions, not numbers.
  • Saved items live in your browser’s storage. They will not appear on another phone until we build accounts — that is the next step.
  • Shopping amounts are approximate: they assume an ordinary portion and may not match your appetite.

Try it right now

Nothing to install. Open the fridge, tick what is in there — or go straight to planning the week.
